The plot of the game was rather modest, but quite sufficient to explain your location on the ill-fated island, which will be discussed. The essence of the problem is the missing expedition, which went to study an unusual for the modern world fauna from dinosaurs, but clearly underestimated their number and aggression, eventually, disappeared. You were sent to track down the survivors or at least what was left of them, but, fortunately, you were more prepared than they are and you know how to shoot well (we hope) that you will be saved lives over many levels, to which the games are broken. Among the shortcomings is worth noting the fact that the levels are quite short and you probably will not have time to thoroughly explore the surrounding world, but also the fact that dinosaurs instantly create after death hints at a hard economy of the game engine resources, which, in general, is rather weak. Another point may seem very ambiguous, because on the one hand the game is offline and it takes away many interesting moments from it, but on the other hand, it can be played in any convenient place and without access to the Internet, it's different for everyone.
