If we talk about the gameplay, then it is based on the theory that once upon a time long ago there were real druids who could control animals and possess some other magical abilities. They used to live in isolation, because other people could not accept their skills, and most often their refuge was a cave somewhere far from the main settlements. Do not be surprised, but the role of such a druid is assigned to you in this game.
The cave will become your base, then you can hire different animals, improve them, pump your equipment, reborn, if you are killed and engaged in other interesting things, without which the game clearly will not be able to turn around. By hiring a small army (by the way, in the beginning it will be mice, larger beasts will appear later) and go outside of their refuge to fight, gaining experience and resources, and explore a vast territory. And, all this happens in real time and does not involve any automation and other tricks that make the game fresh and annoying.
